Hello,

Since my last help that i get here, no reboots anymore Very Happy. But a new problem show up to me.

I have a Bigtower pc with 7 HD (total 1.4tb). I always have my pc on around the clock 24/7. And i always have Wlm, Thunderbird, Firefox running in stand-by mode in my system tray (i use firefox/thunderbird minimize to tray plugin).

When i leave my house to go to work, and after 8 hours when i come back at home, and i switch on my screen, and see that i recive emails. When i open Thunderbird, or any program. Windows is working hard to get it going. Sometime all the programs not responding to anything. I allready use some about:config tips in firefox and thunderbird to let it use low memory when it is minimize to tray.

It looks (in my eye view) that Windows have to startup all of my HD (HD indicator is show that my hd is working hard).

Does any1 here have a register tip or some idea how i can use my pc direct when i touch my mouse.

And no i dont use sleep, or stand by mode. I have WinXP Home SP3 EN-US version.

Thanx Danny

Danny,
I am sorry, but you will not like my answer.

Windows Home is NOT an OS designed to run 24x7. At best, it's an OS for HOME use only where it's duty cycle is about 20%.

You are running your computer like a Network Server, not like a home computer.
There are simply things in Windows Home that can only be done during an orderly shut-down, like updating its registry.

I suggest, unless you want to run a copy of Windows SERVER, that you always shut down your PC when you leave for the day. That will save on electricity and save wear and tear on your PC. It will also give Windows a chance to update itself.

Cheers Mate!

Windows Pro and Home are essentially the same program, with just a few options that are different. Neither are designed for 24x7 use.
Both will load up and die, if left on all the time.

Microsoft builds a special "Server" version of windows for those PC's that absolutely MUST be on all the time.

Then, home computer hardware is designed for about a 20% duty cycle.

Special Servers are built with hardware designed to run at 100% duty cycle and can cost several thousand dollars.

Good Luck,

Wellm i'm running WinXP SP3 Professional 24\7 without any problems. Sometimes I reboot it, though, but not every day. So i think the reason is not in the operating system itself.
