I may have something...if your running NOD32 as your anti-virus, the IMON portion has a setting to "Repair" your network settings if they change (which is a normal occurrence in Vista - especially if UPnP is active). I unchecked this and have not had a problem since then, but this is currently speculation.
This appears to be a vary common problem, it happens to my PC running Vista as well...
It's to do with Vista's very bad memory management, whereby with no warningwhat so ever, Windows actually forgets its default gateway address, and as a result no internet connectivity can occur.
This also explains why you still apear to be conected to the internet, but you cant do anything.
One solution I found (although not stoping the problem from happening) is when it happens, go into the device manage in control panel and disable your network card. Enabling the card again, refreshes the network cards default gateway/ip address and mirracously you will have the internet back with no reboot.
Unfortunately, this only gets the internet back and doesn't stop it being lost in the first place =\
Service Pack 1 for Vista apparently addresses this issue... saying that however, I got access to the particular hotfix, installed it, and it made no difference what so ever =\ so I wouldn't hold your breath..
Sorry I have no links of where I found this info, I just remember reading it somewhere...

This seems to have worked for us, the wife and I both use Acer Extensa 5420's running Turion 64x2 machines with Vista Home Premium.
We connect via a wirerouter (set up as a swtich) and our dial up server is running XP Pro.
I have no connectivity issues and she is always losing her connection.
Went thru the whole gammit of fixes, reseting the server seemed to work but it soon stopped working altogther, saying it couldn't resolve the host server.
As soon as we disabled and enabled the internal wireless adapter everything was fine.
Sounds like a hardware problem, not necessarily a Vista problem?

Should I contact acer about this?
Update
This fix only lasted 20 minutes. Almost at our wits end

Or at least i think i have the answer
I have had vista for over a year now and never had a problem with the wireless until a few months ago it started acting up. i had this same exact problem you all are talking about and searched everywhere forums even Microsoft and Linksys with no answers what-so-ever. it was getting so bad the past month i was restarting my computer every 10 minutes. I finally just tried updating my routers firmware and that worked and I've gone a few days now without one drop.
All times are: Eastern Time (US & Canada) (change)
