1.. I don't see the page trying to sell you anything. Instead it gives
clear instructions on how to fix the Normal WinMail spelling problem, which
is caused by Office 2007.
2. Yes, most new computers come with garbage installed on them. Either
Norton or McAfee and then a whole bunch of unnecessary utilities loading at
start up and slowing down the computer.

May be you need to post a detailed description of the problem you're facing. Were you able to set "English" as the default spell check language?

Ok, going to this help page only wants to sell you a cleaner for some kind
of windows bug. This is a brand new computer so that means that I was sold a
new computer already full of garbage???????
The other desk top that I bought a year ago won't spell check either. The
adobe reader program pops up!

Thank you, Ramesh! it's a god-awful workaround but it did work.
new q: I moved some MS Works Word files to this computer. They were
created under Windows XP. When I try to open them, MS Works Word can't find
them & I keep getting switched to MS Office Word.

I had this problem while working in Outlook and to fix it you have to enable
the spell checker in Windows Mail. Once you do that I'll all work!!

Sorry. Here is the correct link.
Language drop-down box under the Spelling tab in Windows Mail is empty:
http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/192/1/
The REG "spellchk_settings.reg" sets the spell checker language (to English) correctly.

If your Language setting is already on English and you are still getting the
message, choose another language, click "Apply". Choose English again and
click "Apply" then "OK". This worked for me instantly. You may have to close
Windows Mail then reopen it before seeing results.
