I followed the instructions and English was already selected and the spell
check still comes up with the message "this language is no longer available.
Now what?

Select another language and click Apply.
Then select English and click Apply.

Clarifying "Ramesh, MS-MVP":
>Start Windows Mail (it should open to 'Inbox')
>From the 'INBOX' window, click Tools.
>On the Tools drop down menu, click Options
>Click Spelling tab
>Click Language drop down menu
NOTE: Even if the language you want is already displayed, click on the
drop down menu anyway &
select it again. (Sometimes it is like Spelling is turned off &
this turns it back on or resets it.)
>Click Apply
>Click OK

I regret buying Windows Vista. It's been nothing but problems and slows down
my ability to work. This is absolutely silly. "Language no longer
available" and I can't spell check. I'm frustrated........................

Thankyou for your help.
I've had trouble trying to figure this out by myself.
Communities has really helped me with the quirks involved with the new vista
system.

Hello,
I had the same error message. This helped me, but I'm not sure why.
With the "Windows Mail" Opened, there is a menu at the top.
1. go to "Tools" (click)
2. In Tools, look down and go to "Options"
3. With the Options box open, look for the tab "Spelling" (click)
4. At the bottom there is a drop down menu that allows you to select a
language.
(I chose English) although English was already selected, I clicked "Apply"
I also put a check in the box "always check spelling before sending"
5. Click on "Apply"
Hope this works. If not, what part are you having trouble with?
Good Luck!

Again, this fix worked perfectly. I am suprised this slipped through the
BETA testers. What, all the Beta testers spell perfectly. Your awesome
dude!!!!!

What makes you think it slipped through the beta testers?
Microsoft doesn't fix everything the beta testers find.

You're welcome! May be this problem was not seen or reported during Betas. Third-party software may be implicated?

Ok, going to this help page only wants to sell you a cleaner for some kind
of windows bug. This is a brand new computer so that means that I was sold a
new computer already full of garbage???????
The other desk top that I bought a year ago won't spell check either. The
adobe reader program pops up!

1.. I don't see the page trying to sell you anything. Instead it gives
clear instructions on how to fix the Normal WinMail spelling problem, which
is caused by Office 2007.
2. Yes, most new computers come with garbage installed on them. Either
Norton or McAfee and then a whole bunch of unnecessary utilities loading at
start up and slowing down the computer.

Click the Tools menu and choose Options...
Click the Spelling tab
From the Language drop-down, select English (default choice)

May be you need to post a detailed description of the problem you're facing. Were you able to set "English" as the default spell check language?

The other desk top that I bought a year ago won't spell check either. The
adobe reader program pops up!
