Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>performance_maintenance (more info?)

i'm having a problem w/ vista that nobody seems to be familiar w/. i
absolutely must get this computer running smoothly ASAP. i've tried to
appeal to technical support (which requires the vista serial number) but my
serial num' is not recognized. i have tried more than a few times. i really
need help on this. if anyone has any advice please share. incidentally, the
nature of the problem is one of windows maximizing and minimizing when i
click on various parts of pages such as text fields or when should i try to
scroll down using the side scroll bars - the same thing happens...it's
impossible to get anything done really. the only advice i've gotten so far
is "don't click on the BORDERS because they can make things open and close"
or something to that effect. the fact is, something is seriously wrong. i
have been running virus protection since the start and this is a new computer
sufficiently equipped to run vista. i really need tech' assistance. if you
might have any knowledge that can help me please share. eric

Is it possible you have an OEM version of Vista, which would not qualify you
for tech support from MS?

The mouse driver and Video driver are responsible for the mouse cursor. Try
looking into those two areas.

Eric

If Vista was pre-installed on the computer when you bought it, or if you
purchased a discounted OEM version in the store, then all support is
provided by the vendor who sold you the system. This is likely the problem
you are having since the serial number you are using is designated as an OEM
installation.
