I have just installed my office 2007 and have tried to scan a document into
word. Despite looking around the web for the answer I cannot find the 'scan'
button in the file menu on the word page.
Questions:
1. Is there another installation I have to setup to enable scanning to take
place?
2. Hw do I set up my scanner to scan documents into my computer from Word -
or even excel come to that? |

You might try posting your question in the office newsgroups.

What make and model of scanner are you using? How is it connected to
the PC? USB? Scisi? Parallel?
If it uses TWAIN to communicate with the PC then WIA in VISTA will not
recognize it but it is possible to get TWAIN scanners working under
VISTA -- I have one.
Also what version of VISTA are you using? |

Hi,
In my installation of Office 2007 i have a program that allows scanning
(look into the folder where your Office programs are mentioned).

Hi,
Can you explain that WIA in Vista causes a problem for scanners requiring
TWAIN?
Secondly which work arround could you arrange.
My HPscanjet 4570c is installed with the Vista driver , seen in Word, paint
....but no action.
As a trial i used Vuescan (probably not using Twain?) and the scanner is
working which proves that connection and scanner are ok.
But i not intended to purchage that package (now dollarsign added in the
scan) and want to use my scanner in paint, fotogallery ...as i was used to
do in my ME pc.

No -- just that is how Microsoft wrote it. Don't forget they know best!
> As a trial i used Vuescan (probably not using Twain?)
I haven't used it but my understanding is that it does handle TWAIN.

I can ony tell you (and have done already I think) what worked for me and
others here and elsewhere. Install the XP software that includes the scanning
application (Deskscan 2.9 happens to be the one for my generation of scanner
and if all else fails you might even try that which you can download from the
HP website if you search there for it) using Compatibility mode = XP with SP2
and using Run as Administrator.
You have not answered the question:
> How is it connected to the PC? USB? Scisi? Parallel?
You might also try searching this newsgroup -- both here and in General -- for
"4570" and see what other messages you find. |

There isn't any scan or insert from scanner option avaialble in Word 2007
(for even images).
OCR software often has "Scan and send" ability. If yours doesn't you'll
need to scan outside of Word and insert what you want.

I don't know about 2007 but I have Office 2003 which
includes Word 2003 and I use INSERT > Picture > from scanner
or camera, and that works for me. I have an Epson CX3900
All in One. Don't tell me they got rid of this ability in 2007.
Maybe that's why I never upgraded to Office 2007 after the
Beta testing !
Sorry...

Hi - after much searching and testing I found a macro that brings up the old 'insert from scanner' box that was available in previous versions of Word. This does rely on you having scanning software/driver installed.
Create the following Macro (View > Macro > View Macros > Macros in Normal.dotm > Type 'scan' as the name > Create > Paste in code:
Sub InsertFromScanner()
On Error Resume Next
WordBasic.InsertImagerScan
End Sub
You can then 'Customise the Quick Access Toolbar' > choose commands from: 'Macros' and ADD. Then Modify it to give it a distinctive icon.
This will give you the 'insert from scanner' box with one click from the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT).
-----------------
The next challenge was to get it deployed across a network of 100 users (complaining about the function being missing in Word 2007).
So... I copied the Normal.dotm from my computer to a network folder. It is originally here:
"C:%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\normal.dotm"
Paste it twice with the following names:
normal.dotm
scanning.dotm
I also copied my QAT file for Word to the same folder. Originally here:
"C:%HOMEPATH%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Word.qat"
So there are three files in the folder. You can then use a logon script to copy them to the users' folders automatically. A batch file can do the same job (as below). I have taken the precaution of renaming the files that are already there as a backup. Also, be aware that users will get the QAT of your choice rather than an previous customisations but in a new Office 2007 this should not be a problem.
Batch files (and locations to use for logon script):
+++++
ren "C:%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\normal.dotm" normal.orig
copy /-Y normal.dotm "C:%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates"
copy /-Y scanning.dotm "C:%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP"
ren "C:%HOMEPATH%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Word.qat" Word.orig
copy /-Y Word.qat "C:%HOMEPATH%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Office"
pause
+++++++
I hope this helps someone out there avoid hours of research! |

There is a way to scan direct from your scanner in word 2007.
Open Word... Office Button... Select Word Options
Select the 'Customize' option and click the button named, 'Customize'
In the Categories section, select 'All Commands' and in the Commands section find, 'insertImageScan'
Put your own selection in the "Press new shortcut key:" area (I used Alt+Ctrl+Shift+I)
Assign
Close
OK
Now in word, when you press your ketboard shortcut, you will get the "Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera" option...
NOTE: Sometimes the settings are not save to the Normal template when word is closed.
Cheers... |
