Hi all!

I found this thread through google, because I am concerned with this issue too. I am about to install Vista 64bit, but all I read is that the WD My Book Pro don't work on Vista 64bit. However all these topics date back a year or more. So my question is also if this problem has been solved yet or will Vista 64bit still not display the different My Book's either through USB 2.0 or Firewire?

I have the same problem running vista SP1 on an acer 5920g and a WD My book home edition. After the acers post screen, a delay of 30 - 40 seconds occurs after which my laptop boots fine. Very anoying. Any sollutions? Does anyone know the cause of this slowdown? is it vista, the BIOS or the My Book?

Regards,

Mike

Ok, I fixed this issue. Changing the boot order does not help, but excluding the my book from the boot order does! I don't know if all bios's have this option, but my Acer luckily does! Vista boots normal again Smile

Ok, I thought I fixed it, but I haven't. My solution was in the right direction though.

I have been keeping an eye at my BIOS and I found some interesting behaviour. The drive is sometimes listed as a 'USB-drive' and some othe time as a 'MY BOOK'. I have no idea what causes this, the drive or the BIOS. I have an Acer 5920g Laptop, I was wondering what kind of pc other people with this issue are using. I'm trying to find out if this is a My Book firmware issue or a BIOS issue.

The thing is, when I remove the My Book from the boot order, the delay is fixed. But it comes back as a USB-disk after a few reboots (sometimes one reboot is enough) and with this comeback, the delay also returns. IMHO this looks like a bug in the My Book firmware since other usb disks do not have this problem.

Regards,
M.

Vista isn't slow, that's not the issue. There is a 30-40 second delay on boot right after the post screen, caused by the wd my book external drive.
