Mark the message as read and then delete it. If this doesn't work then
ignore it. The cure is worse than the disease.
If you have Norton or McAfee uninstall them. If you have any other
anti-virus turn off scanning of email and EML files.

I agree with the person who asked Microsoft for a patch! Deleting and
reformatting as a way to get rid of errors is ridiculous! How often is this
going to happen? Microsoft, if you're out there, please tell us what to do.

Steve Cochran has graciously developed a free utility program
that will remove a stuck message from the Outbox:
Go to http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
When you start to download the wmutil.zip file,
be sure to choose Save rather than Run.
After it finishes downloading choose Run, then Extract. Then it will
show the extraction folder with two files in it, WMUtil.exe and scxout.dll.
Run WMUtil.exe, wait until the buttons become active, then click on
Clear Outbox. It may take a while. Before you start, make sure
Windows Mail is not running.

I downloaded the program and installed. I closed all my programs including
Winmail. The window popped up with text reading "Close Windows Mail to
enable" and Compact Database, Repair Database and Clear Outbox buttons never
became active.

Cal Bear '66 suggestion worked to close the program and then the Clear Outbox
button activated. Outgoing message deleted and all is working well. Thanks
to both of you.

I am also having the same problem not being able to delete a corrupted email

Steve's program only removes stuck messages from the outbox,
not from other folders. Some have reported being able to delete
bad messages from Deleted Items by repeatedly using the
delete command. The safest thing to do is to ignore the non-outbox
stuck messages. If you are a risk taker, you can 'blow away' the
message store, using the various methods advocated by Steve,
Frank, DGuess, and others.
If it were me, I'd wait for Microsoft to release the new mail program
later this month.

I do had this problem in Vista with a junk mail.
I deleted the following files
from:C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail............
edb.chk
edb.txt
edb00061.txt
windowsmail.msmessagestore file
2 different jrs files and the windowsmail.pat file
When i restarted the application it said:
Buildwing windows Mail Database
when mail popped up no more undeletable message!
Hope this works for everyone else who has a stuck message in the inbox!!!
I hold myself unaccountable for any irreversible damage this may cause to
anyones machine
Use at your own risk!

You completely wipe out the all the data in the database when you do this,
so unless its very annoying, then just ignore it.

I have been having this problem for a while now and I've hesitated about
deleting the files. If I were to delete the things that Steve has mentioned
and I mess something up would I be able to get it back to how it was if I do
a system restore? I'm using a gateway computer and I've used the restore on
my old computer several times to fix things and I was wondering if I did
delete the files if it would get them back if I did it with this new
computer. I am not a very happy Vista user I've had more problems out of it
than the XP I have on my other computer.
