I don't know if this is what took place but it's a little known fact to most that OEM versions of Windows RTM are unlocked based on the hardware they are installed on. IE: if it's an Dell OEM copy of Vista it'll automatically be activated once installed. What might have happened is well, i ran into an issue w/ a dell recently. I know yours is sony, but it might be the same thing. I tried activating the copy of Vista w/ the CD key on the bottom of the computer and it would not let me. I'm thinking the same issue arose w/ yours and so they had to actually give you a key to make it activate. For your safety and future needs: i'd suggest writing down the cd key and keeping it in a safe place. IE: a safe or as in a *.txt file on a backup cd. Everyone should make one, if only to save your favorites. I mean, really, imagine losing all your favorite websites and having to start over should worse come to worse. Been there many a times and it's not pretty. k, well, hope that gives you some insight.
