kb929777 sucks

Right so i bought a quad core pc 4 gig of ram and vista ultimate,
and to install vista you have to take 2 gig out, then install vista then install kb929777 ( this lets you use 4 gig or more ) it does let me use 4 gig but when i shut down windows the pc stays on, windows is still shut down, is there a better patch ??? im so wound up. one thing after another!!!!!
