I never turn any of my machines off unless I have to, however since most
people not using them for work do tend to treat them like the TV set
this nonsense is sure to be a nuisance to many people.

I can download from the internet much faster than my disk drive can fill
a gigabyte of ram? That sound realistic to anybody? I don't think so.

Archived from groups: per prev. post (more info?)

I have exactly the same problem, but it takes around 5-6 minutes (!!) after
logging in until i get a usable desktop. As for Gideon_CC, it turned out that
windows defender and the superfetch service are causing the hdd activity. My
notebook is 2 month old, core2duo 2.0GHz, 2GB Ram and a 5600 RPM Harddisk.
Still not enough for Vista (Business)??? At this point, I got to mention that
this is my company notebook, that's why I have a lot of data and programs on
it (around 100 GB of 160 GB).

I have disabled those 2 services by now, but would like re-enable them.
Anyone got rid of that problem? I can't and won't wait 7 minutes (complete
boot time) until i can start working.
