1) The port to be used is not 25. It's some other port, check with ISP.
2) The SMTP Server requires authentication credentials with user-id a psw,
and the email client program is not set to give them or user-id and psw are
wrong, check with ISP.
3) The SMTP server doesn't need authentication credentials, but the email
client program is set to give them, check with ISP |

When I wrote yesterday my Windows Mail was working again after three
attempts to fix it by my HP guru in India. I am sorry to say that once again
I cannot use Windows Mail either sending or receiving. From what I read
fromthe Microsoft Public Windows messages, this is a recurring problem with
many people. Isn 't Microsoft listening?

Yes, it's a recurring problem with Windows Mail.
This is why I advocate upgrading to WLM:

This isn't the conduit for reporting problems to M$.
Try this
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/techsupport/default.mspx
Meanwhile... are you using Vista incompatible antivirus software
such as Norton or McAfee?

I have been reading all the emails from people with the same problems I have
been experiencing for the past week - basically can't send or receive in
Windows Mail and have to go through my server. I tried to trouble shoot it
with my server but my settings were fine and they said it is with Microsoft
that I am having trouble. I get the same error messages 0x800CCC19 and
0x800CCC0F like everyone else. I use the Live One Care that came with the
computer when I bought it, not NAV or McAfee. I tried the oehelp.com/WMUtil
and no changes. Seems this download of upgrading is the only thing left
..... at least I have not read any other solutions, but maybe I have missed
something in all these numerous posts. If so, please help me out and fill
me in with other information. So my question, if I download this WLM, do I
tell it to "save" or to "run". Will I need to make other changes when it is
installed, or will I simply go back to using my Windows Mail? (instead of
having to go online to my server's website to do all my email as I am having
to do now). I get confused easily, so I'm just wanting to make sure I won't
be getting into hot water when I do this download ! Thank you very much.

When you download WLM, first select Save. When it finishes
downloading, it will offer a Run option. Use that and follow
the prompts.
If it turns out you don't like WLM, you can always go back
to WM by merely uninstalling WLM.
