yup...I had a look at it,but I have'nt installed anything lately at
all..it looks like each time this problem occurs I will have to format
my PC all over again which is ridiculous:(feel like such a loser in
picking a Vista loaded PC...Read more than enough window explorer
crashing issues due to bugs in Vista...and the solution everywhere
seems to be to install the OS again... |

There is a peice of spyware that will cause windows explorer to crash.
It is called windows safety alert or windows security alerts and beside it
in the publisher/manufacturer column it wil be blank. Remove that, and
usually there is another program called spylocked that it comes with that
needs to be removed as well. There isn't an unistall feature for it so you
will have to search for a program that can remove it.
If it isn't there, I'll have to rethink, but most often that is the case.
Does explorer crash in an endless loop? Meaning that as soon as it comes
back up, it crashes again not allowing you to do anything, or only when you
right click? I know for a fact if it is doing what I first said, that is the
culprit.
Let me know and I can tell you how to get into the control panel so that
windows explorer won't close it everytime it crashes.

Check Device Manager to see if all your devices have appropriate drivers
installed (go to Start and type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and
press Enter.

I tried to locate the spyware and came across the the windows firewall
and advance security option and like you said there is no feaure to
unistall, the list of applications were listed against microsoft and
hence no ways to uninstall:(
I face the problem of windows explorer crashing only when i right
click or try to copy,cut(etc)....data from one folder to another and
not in an endless loop but needless to say this has disabled my work. |

Yes I've checked the Device manager too and everything seems to be
fine. |

Hey there, i tried finding a program similar to the one u mentioned, and all i found was WerFault.exe, and it remediated the problem somewhat, but explorer froze, so i closed it then reopened it, and once i tried deleted a file, the explorer is closing error came up and i was back at square one. Didn't actually find out any file like spylocked or the security one u mentioned, in the services or any of those on task manager. What made me wonder was "Windows Desktop Manager" was taking up a crapload of space and i thought it was weird cuz i wasn't doing anything, but it wouldn't let me delete it. My predicament is better listed below, as are the steps i took.
Hi there,
My problem is with windows explorer. all of a sudden, one day, i closed my laptop, to hibernate it. Then once i opened it, a "windows explorer error is restarting" error, then it shows the status bar, it goes nowehre then later it says "windows explorer is restarting". the problem is, i cant access anything, and it doesn't give me enough time to open up a program, and once i scan with anti-virus (symantec) or windows defender, it doesn't do anything. it also knocked out my LAN connection (im a student), so basically, im unable to do anything, be it word processing, or watching movies. Not really sure what else to say, but it is a Toshiba Satellite computer i bought from best buy with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. Anyways if someone could help me with it ASAP, i'd appreciate it. when i restart the computer, it says "exception integer division by zero. (OxC0000994)" it says some more, but i'm not really sure what this means. i've tried running it in Safe Mode, as well, and to no avail.
If you can please help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it.

My problem is pretty much identical to Jon's, but it also happens when I use PowerDesk (explorer on steroids). I upgraded to the latest version of PowerDesk, which is made by a different company and runs independent of the original. So I have three file-management programs which al crash doing the same operation.
So knowing this, there has to be a common denominator tying them together, biut I don't know how to find it. I have two other machines running the same configuration and they don't have this problem. And I can't seem to find what I've done differently to the offender.
I've run two different spy-ware programs and Norton 360, and have come up empty.
Please help before I format.....there is waaayyy to much to copy to DVD's.
Thanks

i had almost exactly the same problem when i got a trojan and even though the Trojan was removed it buggered up my reg files and caused my right click on any desktop icon to crash explorer, as well as the delete button on any file and also other various things such as ctrl+c and +v.
the problem i found after man many hours was a corrupt 'shell' that had to do with explorer.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/shellexview.html
this link is for a programme that allows you to enable or disable shells as you like, my computer had 420 shells so i recommend disabling the whole lot, and see if the problem still exists, if nto then it is a shell.
(word of caution) do not close the programme untill they are all enabled again, because you cant access anything with then all disabled
work though in chunks of about 10-20, and when the problem stops then go individually through them, and keep the evil one disabled.
in my case it was this shell:
CmdLineContextMenu Class
this may also help
http://www.helpwithwindows.com/techfiles/explorer-crashes.html
if this is the solution then please email me at iron.clad.helm DeleteThis @gmail.com so that i know it is a common problem and others may benefit from that knowledge
cheers

i am not entirely sure, but i am almost certain that they will do you no harm, some programmes use many shells and one may not be named another reason may be that vista doesnt like thoes ones
i still reccomend try it, maybe avoid the nameless ones if you are really unsure, but your computer is already buggered...mine also has unnamed ones, and there where no ill effects.
