Will an version of the WebDAV client be supported in Microsoft Vista?
(The Mini-Redirection client seems to be in place - but has propably still
not
yet the full functionality)

Should the URL-notation to open WebFolders still work in IE7 under Vista?
<a href="http://foobar" folder="http://foobar" style="behavior: >
url(#default#AnchorClick)">...</a>

Thanks, Rudolf

WebDAV redirector (the WebDAV client provider that lets you map drive letters
to WebDAV resources is present and completely supported in Windows Vista.
Webfolders however, is not installed by default and is only installed if you
install Office applications. I hope that answers your questions.

If you are having problems accessing WebDAV resources via the WebDAV
redirector, feel free to follow up with me with your steps to reproduce the
problem and any error codes that you are getting.

I currently have a directory on a webdav server say /foo/bar/fee

When I try to mount the directory /foo/bar/fee using the Vista
Microsoft-WebDAV-MiniRedir/6.0.6000, it does an OPTIONS to / (which was
done in earlier versions), but then does a propfind to /foo then
/foo/bar then /foo/bar/fee.

If the user does NOT have access to any of the parent resources (which
is very possible), the mount FAILS. Older versions did not work like
this. I would consider it a security hole if the user MUST have access
to all parent directories. Also it IS possible that the webdav ROOT is
/foo/bar and the directory /foo does not even exist on the webserver
(virtual directory of some sort).

Do you agree this is a bug? Will it get fixed?

Currently this is by design and this is the way WebDAV redirector has been,
even in XP. You are probably referring to WebFolders which is another WebDAV
client shipped with Vista but isn't included with Vista.

Yes - I agree this is a shortcoming of the WebDAV redirector and we do plan
on fixing this in the next release. I apologize for the inconvenience caused.

One workaround (provided the server is IIS6) to guarantee security yet make
this scenario work is to allow the user access to the root but deny access to
the other folders in the parent directory via NTFS ACLs. Of course this is
only in the case where the parent folders are not virtual and actual NTFS
directories on the NTFS volume.

Thanks
