I want to go back to the classic login, but everything I tried did not work.
Tried policy edit no luck.

You can disable fast user switching by going to gpedit ...

Administrative Templates -> System -> Logon -> Hide entry points for Fast
User Switching = Enabled

If you find a way to get a classic login box, let me know. Razz

Navigate to "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System"
Create a REG_DWORD "HideFastUserSwitching"
Value 1 turns it ON
Value 0 turns it OFF

Both don't seem to work in the RTM release.

I found that answer to have a single user logon screen.

Administrative Tools_> Local Security Policy
Then go to the Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options and
in the right hand pane find the "Interactive Logon: Do not Display last user
name"

Enable that policy and logoff and give it a try.

Someone else mentioned if you want the control-alt-del behaviour go to start
then type: "control user passwords2". On the main tab you can require users
to enter name and password (not sure if that is required for the first thing
I mentioned to work). On the advanced page you can find the option to
require ctrl-alt-del.

Anyone had success finding out how to disable fast user switching and enabling the classic login in Vista?

All current post have not worked for me.

This looks to be the best method found so far although it requires a an extra step at login...

You can force users to press the CTRL + ALT + DELETE key combination to log in by modifying group policy.

Press start->run
Type: secpol.msc
Press enter
Expand local policies
Click Security Options
Double-click "Interactive Login: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL"
Check Disabled
Click OK
This will require users to press CTRL + ALT + DELETE before being presented the welcome screen. The welcome screen will still be displayed and will allow the user to select their account from a list.

If you would like to remove the list of accounts and force the user to type his or her username and password, you will need to change another setting inside the local security policy window:

Double-click "Interactive Login: Do not display last user name"
Check Enabled
Click OK
With both of these settings in place, the same functionality of the old-style "Press CTRL + ALT + DEL to login" window is achieved.

i hated the login screen that popped up when i woke my computer from hiberation
not sure if this is what ur talkin about but i fixed it by
control panel
power options
change plan settings (under the setting ur using)
change advance power settings
the first dropdown should say "require a password on wakeup"
mine said "yes" as default and i couldnt change it
but click the button above the drop downs which says
"change settings which are currently unavailable" with the security shield icon next to it
then u can change the "require a password on wakeup" to "no"
now it goes straight to my desktop when i wake from hibernate
might do the same for start up

but first i think u have to make sure there are no other accounts on the computer
and u do not have a password set to login to ur account
good luck
