My adminastrator name is RAY and directly under the DESKTOP folder there is a
folder identified RAY that containes numerous folders (10,201 W/1.3GB)
Further down under C:\USERS\PUBLIC is another folder named RAY that has
duplicate copies of all the above referenced files in addition to a folder
titled APP DATA that contains an additional 8,075 folders w/202MB. Any change
to a folder in either of the RAY folders makes a mirror image change to the
other folder. Why are there duplicate folders? And can I get rid of one? I
tried deleteing the top level folder and when I rebooted it came back. Is
this duplicaton normal???

This is normal. There is no duplication. Namespace items, found
scattered throughout the GUI (including Explorer), are alternative
access points to various folders, files. In some cases, namespace items
are combination views drawing from both the user's own folders and from
public or "all users" locations.

Thank you for your prompt reply.
Since these two folders (short cuts) are pointing to the same data - I guess
I am not concerened - but for simplification - is there a way to elliminate
one of these folders?

Not really. You may break a connection between items and end up with more
of a mess than you intended.

TweakUI for XP allowed us to remove "<user name> Documents" from the main
My Computer window. May see something like that in the Power Toys released
for Vista. From what I've heard, those are in the works. When they're
ready, they'll show up in Downloads (Vista category).
