Progress update: system restore point restored from just before Nero installation, that solved my problem!

I also detected that the icons of my two testmovies on my desktop show the first image of the movies again ("preview")! That option had also disappeared with the installation of Nero.

Think i will wait a while before reinstalling nero...

I read all the threads related to this issue and tried them all. I have Nero 7 installed and did uninstall the suggested pieces. I suspected since I have Extreme installed with Media Center that there might be a link.

Here is my solution:

In IE7 - Tools/Internet Options, Programs tab, Set Program Defaults button, Set Program Access and Computer Defaults, Custom, Choose a default media player:
Set it to Windows Media Player.

Hope this helps.

I am running Nero 8.2.8 and Windows Vista Home Premium. The solution worked great for me. Thanks
