User Profile Service service cannot log on

Hello. I have a Windows XP and am using Window Vista. Just recently, my profile stopped working. It jut says that the Uer Profile Service service cannot log on. The problem is that I am the adminitrator. I have done a system repair with no luck but am trying to fix the problem without doing a system restore. I have seen other listings about this same problem, however, I am not computer smart and am not sure that I understand what all they are talking about. Please let me know if you can help!
