Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>mail (more info?)

An email has appeared in my inbox which I cannot delete, move, forward or
read. I have preview off and temporarily turned off virus protection. I
have tried marking as unread, and all remedies suggested except deleting the
entire windowsmail storage folder which I do not wish to do. I am unable to
open mail strorage folder after a search. Something seems to block me from
opening it. It begins to open then aborts. Can you tell me how to delete
this problem email. It is from listserv.TakeThisOut@aaii.com. I am running Vista
business.

This is the most prevalent Windows Mail problem that has
been reported here since Vista was released.
The most likely cause is running a non-compatible antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled.
Disabling the antivirus program is not sufficient.
Replace with a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

As far as the damage that is already done, the best solution for
now is to ignore that undeletable email unless it's in the outbox.
Hopefully Microsoft will come out with a patch eventually.
At this time there are no Microsoft-approved fixes for Windows
Mail problems.

If after uninstalling your antivirus (and rebooting), you still are
unhappy with Windows Mail, try upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Thank you for your response even though it was not what I wanted to hear. I
have an upgraded version of Norton which is supposed to be fully compatible
with Vista. I think it is very irresponsible of Microsoft to expect Vista
users to choose between security and a fully operating mail system.

Why would it be Microsoft's fault if Norton can't make a compatible product?
There are plenty of other security product vendors who can and do.

That is a false dilemma.
You shouldn't hold M$ responsible for Nortons poor product.
Avast and AVG have perfectly adequate free alternatives..

Hi groovynanna,

Read the top portion at this link and do the "To Reset Windows Mail"
section. It will get rid of the stuck message for you.
