For anyone not familiar with U3, it's a system of installing apps like
email clients and antivirus on a thumb drive. Those apps then run
independently of the operating system, so it doesn't change anything
or leave any crumbs on the host computer.
My 1GB U3 drive is used for boosting Vista's memory, but the U3
applications do not work. There's supposed to be a U3 menu in the
Tray (I guess MS calls it the Notification Area, now. What was so
wrong with "Tray" is beyond me). Nothing appears in the tray and
there's therefore no way to launch any of the apps.
Does anyone else have experience with this type of hardware? |

Agreed, same problem here. Running build 5384 on an ASUS A8N32SLI without
unresolved devices or conflicts, I get the splash screen upon inserting my
Verbatim U3 but no password screen. My other USB flash drives work fine. I
eagerly await that next magical update from Nvidia or Msoft that fixes it, or
someone to tell me where I've gone wrong.

I am having the same issues with Sandisk 2GB U3 drive. It shows 1 media
file, no prompt for password and no event log or other errors.

This is what I know but also as far as I've got...
1: You need to have launchpad intaller set to autostart
2: You have to remove password protection (at least while you are doing this)
3: Plug the drive in, launchpad will try to run, popup informing you that
launchpad is not compatible and option to check for update.
4: Choose yes, IE launches and you are informed that a software update to
launchpad is available. To upgrade click on the "Install Launchpad" icon.
This is where I am unable to move forward...
I click on the icon to install, I get a popup telling me I must have
administrator rights to run the app & that I "do not appear to have" said
rights at this time. I have tried a number of things, turning off the admin
stuff in Vista didn't help in the BetaII build and I don't imagine it will be
any different in my current build (5536 Pre-RC1). Even logged in as the
administrator in the last build.
This time I looked at the source code of the U3 Launchpad Installer Webpage
and found the following:
codebase="http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.CAB#version=1,0,0,12"
&
"http://u3.sandisk.com/download/apps/LPInstaller.exe"
Obviously the fist link got me a cab file that didn't help me any and the
2nd link got me the launchpad installer. I took the installer to an xp
machine, ran it, it installed on my micro; went back to Vista.....same thing.
Looks like I installed the same version I already had.
If anyone gets this to work please let me know.

U3 is notsupported by Vista at this time, after all of the updates and
everything, the launchpad is not supported, maybe by mid october it will be
addressed. They are slowly fixing all of my previous problems one by one.
This is going to effect a lot of users that have bought Thumb Drives in the
last year or so.

I realize the topic is over a year old, but my issue is very similar.
First though, I cannot get the lpinstaller.exe file to download from sandisk site. I have tried every link I can find to it, and have tried to get it from this page:
http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx
...but every attempt no matter how I got there results in a 404 PAGE NOT FOUND.
Have they pulled this necessary file off their site? Has anyone got a recent copy I can get from you? |
