You don't. You can copy the files to an external drive but no file transfer
solution (Easy Transfer or any upgrade process) will support WindowsMe to
Windows Vista.

I am in a similar situation and am looking for a way to transfer the files
from my old ME to my new Vista. Both are connected to my router - is there a
way to transfer the files over my home network? On my ME machine, I've been
able to see the Vista machine in the My Network Places folder, but when I
double click on the Vista machine icon, I get an error:
"\\name is not accessible.
Windows cannot find the computer or share name. Make sure the computer or
share name is valid and that you are connected to the network and then try
again."
When looking at the network on the Vista machine, I cannot see the ME
machine (I do have discovery turned on). I can see the router and can get
on the internet from the Vista machine, so it is on the network. I don't
care which way the file transfer goes (access the ME machine from Vista or
vice versa) - I just want to get the files from ME to Vista and then get rid
of the ME machine.
Any ideas?

Mark,
You have a name resolution problem. Check that NetBT is consistently Enabled,
and that you have no personal firewalls interfering.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html
And look at logs from "ipconfig /all" from both computers.

Chuck,
Thanks for the feedback. Since I'm at work I'll have to try these tonight.
Any idea why I can't see the ME machine on the Vista machine when I can see
the Vista machine on the ME?

Mark,
The browser, which is the infrastructure that lets you "see" a computer from
another computer, doesn't work reliably with Windows 9x (95, 98, ME) and Windows
NT (NT, 2000, XP, Vista) in the same workgroup. You end up with a master
browser conflict.
