I have installed the Vista Enterprise Upgrade now several times. Each and
everytime I run Sysprep, it fails with a fatal error. I'm installing on the
same computer, a Dell Optiplex GX620. I am upgrading from Windows XP Pro. Is
anyone else having this issue ?

Hello Bob,
What is the error message?
Is this after the upgrade happens? When are you running sysprep?
Thanks,

Hello Bob,
Can you send me the setupact.log file? I don't see enough information to
figure out why it's failing with the lines posted
Remove the online from the email address.
Thanks,
Darrell Gorter[MSFT]

Issue is solved thanks to Darrell. I uninstalled the sound hardware and
removed the files and Sysprep worked fine.

Hi,

I too am having the same problem.

My equipment is a Dell GX270 & has an integrated SoundMax chip.

I have tried Disbaling the device (I cant physically remove it from the box) but that doesnt make any difference.

I would appreciate any leads so I can take the next step. Right now I am stuck:(

Thanks,

John

I've been running into this issue and working on it for days, and here's what I did to get around it.

I had read online that it was caused by SoundMax drivers, so I gave that a go first--many times, without success. So, I took another look at the log and saw the Intel integrated display driver was also causing the problem.

Before doing the following, you may want to back up the drivers in the driver repository so you can have sysprep automatically add them.

I first went in device manager and uninstalled the sound device (be sure to check the box to delete the drivers from the system) and the display adapter driver (do the same). It'll require you to restart. If you have Windows Update enabled, it may pull these drivers right back from the Internet, so I'd disable Windows Update.

Then, I went to the Add/Remove Programs application and uninstalled the Indeo and SoundMax programs. After this, I had no problems imaging. I captured an image with Ghost, then used Ghost Explorer to add the drivers back on the image. I also have a network share, but for some reason it's not wanting to grab the drivers from there.

Sysprep went smooth, but I won't guarantee your drivers will automatically install after the image, if that's what you're using sysprep for.
