If I double click on a Jpeg file on my desktop - nothing happens.
If I right click and choose open with "Windows Photo Gallery" - nothing
happens.
If I right click & set the default program to open with "Windows Photo
Gallery" then try and open it - nothing happens.

If I open a JPEG attachement on an email from within Outlook it opens up
straight away in Windows Photo Gallery no problem.

Also if I open Windows Photo Gallery first and then locate the JPEG it again
opens fine.

But I just cant open Jpegs up directly by double clicking on them.

FYI: I bought a Vista Capable notebook with XP Pro then installed the Vista
Business Upgrade.

I can now also confirm that I can open Jpegs providing I save them anywhere
other than the Desktop.

So it's clearly something with my desktop that is stopping them from being
opened.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, RyanR

I am having the same problem. Can anyone please help us with this it is very
annoying. Anytime I want to view a photo now I have to drag it to a folder on
my desktop, then open that folder, and THEN double click it to see it. Makes
no sense and is driving me crazy!

Hi C.Allebest,

I found out that the reason I couldnt open any jpegs from my desktop was
because I had a corrupt file also residing on my desktop, thus affecting the
good file I wanted to open.

To find out if this is the same cause for you try the following...

1. Create a new folder somewhere, say in My Documents and temporarily move
all the files/shortcut icons from your desktop into this folder.

2. Now that your desktop is clear, copy a good Jpeg to your desktop and try
double clicking it.

3. At this point my Jpegs opened fine. So one at a time I pulled my original
icons/files back to my desktop and after each one kept trying the Jpeg untill
it didnt open again. At that point I knew exactly which shortcut/file was
corrupt causing me the grief!!!

Hope this helps.

RyanR.
