I need to assign a static IP address to my work laptop, running Vista Business, on my corporate network. When I went to do so, I noticed that the only protocol that my connection thinks is installed is "Client for Microsoft Networks". But, when I try to click the install button, I get to the next screen, select "Protocol" and then I see the following error: "Could not add the requested feature. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified."

Furthermore, in the connection's Properties dialog, there is no connection hardware assigned -- "Connect using" is blank. When I click the configure button, it is using the proper card...it is just not showing up in the Properties dialog GUI.

Everything is working just about flawlessly -- I just need to set a static IP. Ideally, I would like to know the following:

1. How do I give my computer a static IP (set the IP, subnet mask, gateway and DNSs) using the command line or other tools.

2. How do I fix my GUI issue?

Thanks in advance.
