I am unable to install the security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework,
Version 1.1 Service pack 1 (KB929729).
Since July 18, I am getting an error Code 643
I can not find a reference to this error code.
This is driving me nuts.
Vista Business is an upgrade to Win XP Pro on a MacBook.
Please help..... |

You may have to try the instructions given here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100/
Basically, it involves un-installing .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack
1.
Then download and use (Run as Administrator) the Windows Installer CleanUp
Utility, and remove all references to .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service
pack 1 (only!).
Then reinstall .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack 1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A8F5654F-088E...B2-BBDB
Then run Windows Update again, to install KB929729.

What is the message you are getting when you try to uninstall it? Is it an
error message, or does it say you don't have the administrative rights to do
so?
You could try uninstalling it in Safe Mode.

I don't get a message. The computer asks if if I would like to continue my
action. I say yes. The Uninstall progress window appears but does not start
the uninstall. It just closes

Hi Anna, I guess I would do this:
Unregister and then reregister Windows Installer. To do this, press the
Windows Key + R, and Copy and Paste this into the Run box:
msiexec /unregister
Click OK. Then Copy and Paste this:
msiexec /regserver
Click OK. Close Run.
Go to the Control Panel\Programs and Features, right-click on .NET Framework
Version 1.1 Service pack 1, and choose Repair, if it's available. Let it
Repair. Then try to Uninstall it.
If that doesn't work, Microsoft recommends trying to uninstall it in Safe
Mode (without Networking).
Let me know if it's still not uninstalling...

It's me again. I tried doing the unregister thing but I have no option to
repair the
1.1 Service Pack therefore I still can't uninstall it. How do I uninstall it
in Safe mode?

Hi Anna.
Safe Mode is accessed by pressing the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly
after you initially start your computer, around the time the BIOS is done
posting, or presenting the initial screen , when you power on. You will see
a list of options, in which you have to use your Arrow Up or Down keys to
make a choice. Once you enter Safe Mode, you'll see your Desktop, and all,
but not all services and drivers will have been loaded, and things might
appear slightly gigantic. The display driver you normally use, for example,
has been disabled. Once you have tried uninstalling NET Framework Version
1.1 Service pack 1 in Control Panel, to exit Safe Mode, just restart your
computer as you normally would, using the Start Menu.
If that doesn't work, or you feel you don't want to go that route, just try
going to the next step.
Download and use (Run as Administrator) the Windows Installer CleanUp
Utility, and remove all references to .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service
pack 1 (only!).
Then reinstall .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack 1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A8F5654F-088E...B2-BBDB
Then run Windows Update again, to install KB929729.

I don't find any .net framework installed on my computer, so uninstalling is
out. Is this something that is absolutely necessary to have? |

..NET Framework Version 1.1 Service pack 1 Is optional, and no, it doesn't
come with Vista's default installation. You only need it if you have
installed a program on your computer that requires it.
Vista is installed with.NET Runtime versions 2.0.50727.312 and 3.0.4506.25,
however, and you may see updates for these in your Windows Update history.
These Framework versions can't be uninstalled.

Great. I just would now like to get rid of that pesky upgrade announcement
for something I don't need. Thanks dean-dean |
