Netgear Print Server on Vista

Open Printers Control Panel

Click the "Add a printer" button at the top of the window

Click "Add a local printer"

Then select "Create a new port" and change the type of port to Standard TCP/IP

Click Next

Change Device type to TCP/IP Device, enter the ip address of your server and give it a port name. The port name really isn't important as long as it isn't already being used by another port. Netgear uses the format IP_(server's address)P1 and IP_(server's address)P2
Unselect "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use" and press next

Vista will try to detect the port, but will fail.

On the next screen set Device Type to Custom and press settings.

Protocol should be LPR and the Queue name should be L1 for port 1 and L2 for port 2.

Check the LPR Byte Counting Enabled and press ok.

Press next and find your driver and press next.


ALL DONE! You should now be able to print. The only hard part may be finding a print driver that will work in Vista.

I've been having the exact same problem as Ryan.. I have some close
contacts in Netgear Development and have reported the problem to them
having said that... I'm not holding my breath... for a resolution... you'll
notice that the last time a firmware update for the WGPS606 was release was
nearly 1 year ago..
and it doesn't support WPA2 (WPA AES) only WPA TKIP .. and no signs of an
update..

it wouldn't suprise me if the solution to this problem ... is a new product
release.. a Draft-N Print server.. ideally with a gigabit switch built
into it.. (but you didn't hear this from me :->)
start bugging Netgear support after Vista is offically released.. I like
this print server because it also acts as a Wireless bridge..

ok I have tried the steps provided and didn't work, although Im not sure what ip address to put in...also should the print server dosent need to be connected to my computer does it? Just to the router and printer correct?
