| I realize this has been mentioned before but reading through led to no answer not to my exact issue.
Pre-installed Vista Home Premium on new computer. When trying to download files from various sites I get the prompt to select location to download to. I select (user) (documents). All appears to download fine but when looking for the file in that location it does not appear. Using search for the exact name of the file finds nothing. If I go back to the site I downloaded from and repeat the process, the file shows up in the correct location and warns that a file with that name already exists in that location on the computer. I select overwrite and the same thing happens. The file appears to be there but cannot ever be found.
When selecting the download location the file always appears to already be there and appears fine in the download dialog box but comes up missing when I try to find it.
I have downloaded the exact files using XP with no problem. Tried various locations - desktop, my documents, my pictures, etc. Vista seems to eat them.
Any suggestions from Pirillo? Or anyone?

I installed a PDF creator program that is used as a printer. Everything goes smoothly, the file is created, but after I select the folder to save the newly created PDF file in and save the file, Vista gives me a warning message that for my protection, the file was stored in a Temporary Folder.
I go back to the folder I attempted to save the file in and none of the files are listed there. I attempt to recreate the PDF file and it appears the files are already stored in the folder, but they are "not" really there. Where's David Copperfield when you need him???
I do a search for the exact file name to see if I can find the mysterious Temporary folder where theses files are allegedly stored, and no files are located by Vista's search feature.
I'm fairly tech savy, but this has me stumped.

Dear Sir,
I'm encountering the same problem you described below. I'm just wondering if you've found the solution that you can share with me?
Thank you very much for your assistance.
Best regards,
Grate

You may need to turn "user account control" off. Can't stand it. First thing I do on an install is turn it off. Then go to your security center in control panel and tell it not to notify you and to not put that pesky icon in the task tray.
I can't imagine anybody wanting to be asked every time they click on something if they really wanted to do that. Duh!
In any case go here http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/6555-downloaded-files-disappear-...ually-n mabe one of these solutions will work for you. At least you will know you are not alone . |
