Linksys router with windows vista

HELP PLEASE! I am a novice when it comes to all that is computers. I recently purchased an HP pc with Windows Vista software and a Linksys 2.4 Ghz wireless router. I have highspeed internet and the problem is that when I go through the router I have internet for 1 hour and then I lose it for one hour and the so forth and so on back and forth. I live in Japan so the internet company is no help and I cant afford to sit on tech support hold for hours on end waiting or getting nowhere. I have no idea what settings to put the router on to keep it from screwing up. I am sure someone here is able to help me but please remember that I dont know all the computer jargon so please be as " Barney" as possible.
