I downloaded the Criticdal Updates to my Vista for KB890830 and when I looked
in the log I saw a new sentence, which was:

"WARNING: Security policy doesn't allow for all actions MSRT may require."

What does this mean exactly? Is there something wrong with my computer?
Please advise and thank you.
Alice

Hello Alice,

Malicious Software Removal Tool
<https://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx>

I'd recommend re-downloading Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal
Tool (KB890830), and saving to a known location--like the desktop, close any
open page, and run a full scan.

You should also ensure your computer has all the security updates available
at Microsoft Update.
<http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-us>

If you continue to have trouble, you can obtain free malware-related support
from Microsoft Product Support Services by calling +1 (866) PC-SAFETY (+1
(866) 727-2338) in the U.S. and Canada, or at your local international
subsidiary. <http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx>

Good luck

Me too, the first time I have seen that but looking back I see in April
it produced
'Security policy adjusted. Engine requests reboot and try again,
ignoring.'
' No errors found'

The same Warning message each month now but as it was a Microsoft change
and MSRT is the umpteenth line of defence for me and it says 'may' I'm
not too concerned. It would have been nice to have been told which
setting it refers to.

C/windows/debug/mrt.log contained the error: "Security policy doesn't
allow for all actions MSRT may require". I found that mrt.exe was being
run from a network drive (in my case a NetGear SC101, drive GSmile. When I
dismounted the drive and ran msrt again, it completed successfully. I
don't know why that drive was picked as the target for mrt.exe but
mrt.exe won't run from there.
