Post subject: Internet Access in Automatic Mode only

We have 2 PC's on a network. 1 runs XP and the other Vista. the network is set up and we can view each PC from the other and also VNC to each. However when IP address is specified on the vista machine it refuses to access the internet. The settings are identical (apart from the PC IP address itself) but it wont get on the net or ping a domain.

However if we switch it back to automatic mode it picks up the internet straight away. Any ideas as I have been looking around answers on google and still havent been able to get it sorted. Thanks

Are you filling in the gateway address and DNS servers when you give the machine the IP address manually? Without gateway and DNS addresses, you won't be able to get to the internet.
