I have exactly the same problem, but it takes around 5-6 minutes (!!) after
logging in until i get a usable desktop. As for Gideon_CC, it turned out that
windows defender and the superfetch service are causing the hdd activity. My
notebook is 2 month old, core2duo 2.0GHz, 2GB Ram and a 5600 RPM Harddisk.
Still not enough for Vista (Business)??? At this point, I got to mention that
this is my company notebook, that's why I have a lot of data and programs on
it (around 100 GB of 160 GB).
I have disabled those 2 services by now, but would like re-enable them.
Anyone got rid of that problem? I can't and won't wait 7 minutes (complete
boot time) until i can start working.
