I recently noticed that my HDD activity is constant for about 2-3 minutes
after I have loaded the computer up. This is just after the startup programs
like AVG and MSN have loaded. After about 2-3 minutes, the HDD activity goes
back down to what it normall is, which is flashing every few seconds.

Do you know what is using the high HDD usage for those 2-3 minutes after
startup? I look at the Reliability and Performance Monitor Utility and notice
lots of files on it which are a lot in system folders and some in program
files and my documents and things like that. The IO priority is at background
for them and there are hundreds of them, then after 2-3 minutes, the number
drops and the IO priority changes to Normal and note Background. The HDD
activity also returns to flashing every few seconds and not constant.

What is this?

Have you recently installed a spyware program? If so, perhaps you have it
set to do a scan at startup. If not that, determine what you may have
installed recently that might require a disk scan at startup.

There is no spyware.
