While I don't have the initial release of Halo for Windows, I do have Halo:
Combat Evolved for Windows. It runs VERY well in Vista. In fact, the
graphics performance is MUCH smoother and faster under Vista than it was under
XP.

Hi, mine too, looks fabulous on my 24" widescreen after I found out how to
put vidmode into the exe. Even puts itself into 'games'.

Halo CE runs great on Vista Home Premium, which is more than I can say for
CoD2 or BF2. Get your act together Microsoft!!

CoD2 and BF2 are titles put out by Activision and EA, not Microsoft. Windows
Vista appcompat work did include both of these titles along with many
others, but if the publisher issues a new patch then it is pretty much up to
them to make sure it continues to work on the OS.

CoD2 works fine on my Vista HPE system. Have no idea what troubles you are
having.

You'd think a Game produced under Microsoft would, um, work with Microsoft
O/S's...
It installed on Vista X64 OK but keeps freezing. I have 2 EVGA 8800 Ultras
in SLI and the F/R's are horrable. I did finnaly get it to run OK, just OK
after setting my SLI to One GPU in nVidia's Control Panel. This means that
One Card is used for video and the other is used for its resorces. Still get
bad F/R's and have to turn off Antialaising just to get that. I average maybe
15fps on a good Day, and that's not including sloppy Frame rendering,
something that has to do with the Game itself. The video Card only uses the
Data its given. Bad Data to the Card means bad F/R's and lousy Picture as
well.
I hear it's because of my video Card choice but I don't buy it. I think it
has to do with bad drivers on the Games part. They Code these Games to work
with minimal Systems and leave the more cutting Edge systems like SLI to the
Dogs.
I imagine if I had a Dell or Gateway with bare minimums the Game would rock
and the F/R's would beat my Monster Rig 9 ways to Sunday.
It's all about the consumer, and consumers aren't using SLI.
Untill SLI and 64bit technology is a consumer norm, forget support...
Trust me, it's not my Rig. You can see what I'm running here:

Actually it is your rig, your rig is really new trying to run a game that's
"really old". downgrade your system to a single core with a pre-x1000 series
ATi video card and the game should run great.
Can't even recall if SLI was around when Halo 1 came out. Ever think of
that? |

You must be new to PC gaming. MS developed the 360 for people like
you.

I'm not going to turn this into a debate over who knows more etc...
I've been into Gaming sice Pong. My First PC was a Vic 20.
PS3 and XBox 360 aren't bad Gaming Consoles but aren't PC's either, I know
the difference.
With the advent of new technology comes transition Headaches, that's all I
was saying. Don't bother replying with another snippy comment, I won't
respond.

Damn, that was one of the most hateful and undeserved responses I've EVER
read on the Intardweb. I shudder to think we share the same first name.
Damn forum trolls! Go back to the shadows from onsted you came, vile idiot!
I've run into a couple programs that have "Windows Vista" on the box, but
are clearly not well tested, AvP I remember also had WinXP issues. Vista is
better an older games than XP was. Internet wasn't as big back then, not
every village idiot could post on newsgroups either. Ah, memories.
my first system was an Atari 800, still have it in fact. I sold my ST
though, still regret that to this day. |
