DVD rom won't read game or driver Cd's - xp and music work

I have a LITEON 20x SATA DVD-rom drive. it will play music cds as well as program cds like XP installation cd and verizon but i'm trying to install the drivers for my mobo and graphics card and it won't even recognize that it's in the cd drive. the drive is 2 days old, brand new, and would read the driver discs earlier in the afternoon. since then I have reformatted and reinstalled, swapped HD's, and IDE cables, what's could be wrong with it?

I have found another person who is having the exact same problem with his LiteOn cd drive,
it will load music cd's for him but not games.
