Post subject: DPR-1260 Vista Main and XP other wireless can NOT print @#$@

9/7/07

Help, please! The D-Link "support" is NON-EXISTENT, RUDE, and INCOMPETENT. I had to accept Vista on a new machine in an emergency and my other two laptops still run XP. I upgraded Vista Business to Vista Ultimate. I use a Linksys Router---works fine. I have had nothing but grief trying to get that @#$@#$ DPR-1260 set up and I spent 4 hours with non-English speaking jackasses who were RUDE and contemptible and no help whatsoever. I had to add a new printer, HP 2015D and I can not print to either that new printer (because there is no driver for Vista!---HP is another non-customer-oriented provider!) and I cannot print to my HP 7310 multi-function. I am a teacher and I NEED those printers---can anyone, PLEASE, help? Thanks,

Sandy

Post subject: Solution

Hi Sandy. I am sorry to hear about your problems. I hope the following solutions will help you. maybe a little long. but it will 100% work IF and only IF your printer is compatible (which we don't really have much control over)

First of all, your HP 2010D <- i couldn't locate this printer online. is it a really really old printer? or are you sure is HP's printer? Because i found Samsung with a model called ML-2010D, where as i have no luck with HP with this model #. if it is extreme old, then its compatibility maybe questionable.

So back to the solution. First of all, there are two things you can check for both printers to find out if they will be compatible with both your Windows and the Printer Server (DPR-1260).

TEST#1:
Do both printer work with your windows vista without the print server DPR-1260? What i meant is directly plugging it in to your computer and can it print? if it can print, you already have the necessary driver and is compatible with vista.

and here is the VISTA driver for your HP 7310 office jet.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=391182&amp...=en&amp

(copy this link and download the driver from here. install the driver into your vista system first)

TEST#2.
plug both printer into your DPR-1260 then check your status page by going into your browser and DLINKPS-XXXXXX (you should know this). see if the print server detect both your printer. If so, you're in luck. meaning it is compatible.

Let's assume you passed both test above. here's how to set it up with VISTA. because the automated function from the print server DPR-1260 will not work with VISTA. (only for XP)

ok. have everything plug in and ready. (I assume you have no problem setting up your network connections here) here's the setup.

1) Go to START (or that circle thing) -> Control Panel
-> Hardware & sound -> Printer.

2) from Printer page -> click on Add a Printer.

3) From here, choose to add a local printer

4) Choose create new port and select Standard TCP/IP from the list -> next

5) First option leave it as Autodetect,
Host name IP and PORT are both your:
DLINKPS-XXXXXX (your last 6 MAC) or DSLINK-XXXXXX (depends on which firmware version)
keep the box checked. -> then next

WAIT a little for detection

6) Choose Custom and then click on Settings.

FROM HERE, there are 2 ways to set it up. I recommand the 2nd way because for me, the first way always jam my print server. but i'll show you both.
--------------
1st way:
-leave the port and ip as is.
-Protocol = RAW
-RAW Setting = 9100 (this is default of your DPR-1620 unless you changed, then type in your setting - you can check from dlinkps-xxxxxx page under RAW TCP PORT. Differ for both printer, so better check first)
-Checked the SNMP Status Enabled: with option Public and 1 (default)
-> ok

2nd way:
-leave the port and ip as is.
-Protocol = LPR
LPR Setting = (check your dlinkps-xxxxxx, is under LPR Queue Name, there's no default for this one because is different between printers - differ between your two printers, better check first)
- Do not enable SNMP.
-> ok
-------------

from here, click next

The following screen, just choose your printer brand and model from the list, this is where you install your driver.

-> next

do a test print and DONE!!!

Do the same for both printers.

Hope this help. sorry about the inorganization. if you found this helpful, please organize it and pass it on. since you're a teacher, i am sure you can do a much better job than me.
