I spent over 50 hours solving problem with my new Vista HB64. Internet
is working fine but can't touch and share an old XP machine. So, what's
the catch? I discovered a three major rules in network hacking.
Rule No.1 : Read carefully help files supplied in OS Vista Networking
Rule No.2 : Read carefully help files supplied in OS Vista Networking
Rule No.3 : Read carefully help files supplied in OS Vista Networking
On both computers your workgroup name
must be a "WORKGROUP".
If you try any other name, a connection remains blind with no shares.
Guess? A magic word is "
WORKGROUP".
Of course you should obtain a fixed IP adresses, same subnet masks,
and same gateway too. Using equal account names or passwords works
fine, but is not important. Try to avoid duplicate firewall actions, or any
third party filtering. I think you can trust a protection software solutions
made by McAfee or Kaspersky Labs.
Hmm... Vista and XP can communicate in home/small business networks
with
full R/W access on all shared resources. Enjoy your networking!
