Post subject: Computer going to sleep when i dont want it to
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windows>vista>administration_accounts_passwords (more info?)

My boyfriend is in iraq and i want my laptop to stay online while i am alseep
so if he gets online the noise will wake me up and we can chat. but usually
when i wake up i have missed his getting online completly cause my compueter
goes to sleep.

Plase tell me how to change this!

It should be a simple fix, i just want to turn the auto-sleep off, i just
dont know how to. I am using windows vista FYI,

Look under control panel-->power options.

Steps to disable standby in Vista.

Click Start , and then click Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and
then click Power Options.
Select Energy Star, Power saver, or High performance, and then click
Change plan settings.
If you want the display and computer to stay on, change the settings to
Never.

Alternatively you may try this:

Click Start , and then right-click Computer.
Select Properties, and then click Device Manager in the left panel of
the window.
Click the plus sign ( +) next to Network Adapters.
Double-click the name of the device to open a Properties window.
Click the Power Management tab, and check the selection from Allow this
device to wake the computer.
