I am receiving a Code 19 - Registry - when I plug in my I-Pod through the USB
Port, and I always have it under USB CF Reader (in Portable Devices) and
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface (in Network Adapters).

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Or at least get my I-Pod to be
recognized by my computer again?!? - The only change I have is a recent
install, uninstall, and re-install of Norton 360. Norton 360 support hasn't
answered my request for support.

Thanks,
Jacob

Why did you uninstall then reinstall Norton 360?

I uninstalled Norton 360 because I was receving an "Engine Error" when I
started Internet Explorer. Norton 360 Support claimed an uninstall and
re-install would fix the problem. (Though even after the re-install, I
occasionally get the same error untill I re-boot the sytem).

Thanks Jacob. That is strange advice to say the least. I have Norton 360
and have never had your problem. So, it could be that you installed a
program that overwrote part of Norton's? (wild guess as this is not
supposed to be possible with the advent of UAC)

Have you tried uninstalling Norton 360, then seeing if the problem still
exists?

Jacob T.,

I've never heard of getting a Code 19 when connecting a USB device. That
code is usually a problem associated with CD/DVD-ROM drives and some burner
application. Problems when connecting a USB device typically involve Windows
not finding the driver for the hardware. So, I'm not sure what to recommend.

I'm inclined to suggest you try two approaches. One involves this:
sometimes resolving USB device driver installation issues like you may have
can be resolved by deleting the INFCACHE.1 file, which can get corrupted with
bad data. The file is located at: C:\Windows\inf. There, scroll down to the
INFCACHE.1 file and right click it and select delete. To do this, you will
likely have to give yourself permission to delete it, because of Windows
built-in Security. Just right click the file, select Properties and then
click on the security tab. Post back on the results, since I can't be
certain about your situation. Just something to try.

The other procedure involves removing the upper and lower filters in
registry. You've likely seen recommendations regarding this fix, as this
forum receives one or more of this problem daily. You can easily find how to
perform this procedure by perusing some of the posts below. The copy and
burn program that comes with the Apple iTunes/iPod has been known to cause
problems in Vista. Apparently, the Apple software has been having some
compatibility issues. Always update to the latest Version of the Apple
software as soon as practicable. Let us know how things work out.

In response to the assistance I have recevied from you and Captain Roberts, I
deleted the INFCACHE.1, UpperFilter, LowerFilter, and both Un-installed and
Re-Installed Norton 360. I checked the Device Manager each time I made a
change, but the problem was not resolved during any portion.

Jacob,

Have you tried posting this issue on an iPod forum?

Jacob, you misunderstood me. I wanted you to ONLY uninstall Norton 360, and
DO NOT reinstall it. Once the program is uninstalled, if the problem
persists then there is a good chance that Norton 360 is not the culprit.
(Of course, Norton 360 could have installed dll files that were not
uninstalled during the uninstall process, but lets take this one step at a
time)

Yes, I checked after I uninstalled Norton 360 - The problem was still there.

Ok. Do you have Norton Ghost or similar? If you do, did you image your
system to DVD? And if so, you could just restore that image. If not, you
would be better off doing a clean install of Vista. There is another
program besides Norton Ghost 12 that works with Vista, and if you prefer to
use that one do so. If you image your system right after you have all your
drivers and updates installed, it makes it easier to fix problems. (you
don't have to keep activating Windows each time you start over)

FYI - The three problems were easily fixed when I clicked "uninstall" in the
Device Manager, then rebooted the computer. All three returned without
registry errors.

Jacob T, what did you "uninstall" in device manager please? I'm having
code 19 on USB CF reader, USP MPs player, and code 31 on Microsoft 6to4
adapter.
It appeared to be Norton Internet Security 2010 related but now I don't
think so.
It's uninstalled and the registry errors persist.
