I have Windows Defender running normally on Windows Vista (the task-bar icon
is showing that Defender is on and running ok) but the Security Center is
telling me that Windows Defender is turned off and there is a button to turn
it on. However, when I press the Turn On button (even though I know it is
already turned on) I get the message: "Security Center is updating
definitions for Window Defender". After "searching for definitions" I get
the message: "There are no new definitions available to download for Windows
Defender". I'd like to solve this because the Security Center icon is always
showing me that I have a Security Alert. |

I have exactly the same problem. I just installed Windows Vista business
version. It is annoying. Can we send this problem to Microsoft?

Please perform the following to resolve your issues.
Open elevated command prompt and type cd\windows\system32\wbem press enter
Then type ren repository repository.old and press enter.
Restart the computer and check your security center again hopefully
everything should be working there.
Thanks and Regards

Can you give me more details and step by step instructions on what I have to
do please. I'm not very IT literate.
Thanks.

Thanks for the fix. I've been looking for this for months now. It had
happened on another computer and I was worried it was a sign of
malware.
The second fix works a charm. You need to restart after you run it the
2 or 3 times for the warning to go away.
Wahey.
