Well the driver installed fine, as did the Canoscan Toolbox but the computer
can not communicate with the scanner. Has anyone gotten this working in
RC1? Thanks!

Same problem here with 5728. Tried all the tricks. No joy. Will have to wait
for Canon to do something about it.

Thanks for the reply - this is my first Canon product (sold an older HP
scanner figuring that it would be a cold day in hell before HP released
Vista drivers for older their older products). What's your experience been
with Canon on driver updates? I hope I didn't pull an "out of the frying
pan and into the fire" when it comes to this purchase <g>.

In as far as driver updates go, Canon is no different than others: they will
wait untill they get sufficient pressure to produce a new driver
(particularly for a new OS, that process is slooooow). However, I wouldn't
worry too much about it because the 4200f is a fine scanner. I use it to
scan old pictures and it does a fine job.

Ermmm... I have a very bad experience of waiting for Canon drivers. They
plain WILL NOT make linux drivers available. Wron thread, I know, but don't
hold your breath...

Shrink, I am having this same problem on a Windows XP box.
I discovered that unplugging the HP LaserJet 1600 and replugging the scanner made it work.
Are you using a LaserJet 1600?

The CanoScan 4200F Color Image Scanner quickly produces superb scans from a wide range of materials including wedding rings photos, documents, magazines, slides and negatives. It delivers an exceptional color resolution of 3200 x 6400 dpi (max.) as well as 48-bit color depth, for over 281 trillion possible colors. For cleaner, more robust scans of older originals, automatic retouching and enhancement technology automatically removes much of the dirt and scratches that may appear on your originals wholesale handbags. It even auto-corrects tone and optimizes highlights and shadows, for the best scans possible. This is one smart scanner.
