Post subject: Attempted a back up and now my D recovery partition is full

I am running Vista on an HP Pavilion. I attempted (twice) to use the auto backup program that comes with HP. I was informed that it was unsuccessful ("incorrect function") and given the error message "0x80070001." After that my Recovery D: partition became nearly full, presumably b/c for some unknown reason the files were mistakenly put there (instead of on the blank dvds as I was attempting) during the unsuccessful Back up attempts. I have tried to view the contents of D: in hopes of deleting these unwanted files using the information found here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00859515&a...cc=us&a however I am not able to view anything in D: at all (even after clicking the "show hidden files and folders" toggle and hitting "apply" and "okay"). Can you please help me find a way to delete the files that shouldn't have been put on D: without doing a system recovery? Thanks so much.
