What is the best and reasonably priced anti-virus software available that is
compatible with Vista?

AVG Free works great with Vista, and the price is great: FREE! Also, Avast
has free AV software, but I have not used it yet.

For the not so free, but the best, look to NOD32.

I'm using Avast! - free for home use, and have not had any problems with it
so far. Previously tried AVG, which *may* have issues with Windows Mail when
reading/changing incoming mail, so I changed.

Also had Bullguard pre-installed which I didn't like.

Avast! is available from http://www.avast.com/

I used to use AVG Free but now use AVG anti malware which is anti
virus/malware.
Never had a problem.
I don't use Windows Mail though as I think it's an abomination of an
email app.

Depends on the definition of best. This type of question cannot be answered
in the definitive. Some folks will swear by one and others will swear at
it.

There are several that by consensus seem to work well in Vista. Avast (I
use this) and AVG have free versions. NOD32 is a paid version and
generally regarded as excellent. I would avoid anything Norton (or McAfee.

If you care about the protection you should try several and do a scan to see
how good they are some work faster and better than others.

What email client do you use? What is it about Windows Mail that you
particularly object to?

I'm not sure why you are posting this to me. I didn't have the question.
But in seeing your post I have to ask, if the system is fee of any viruses,
how can scanning with two different AV programs show how "good" they are?
What do you mean by "good"? How does that show that one works "better" than
another?

I also am using Avast with Vista. Have been running the free version for
about 2 months with no problems.

Grisoft AVG. It's free -- you don't get more reasonable than that. Wink

Dr.Web beta for Vista has just been released. It's a really good AV
tool, I'm using it on my laptop for about 2 years.

NOD32, is the best. its not free, but it detects and terminates the most
viruses. also Free anti-Virus programs are not the best, they are actually
one of the worst. it is Vista Capable...heh...i am using NOD32 right now on
my Windows Vista . it updates automatically. I had WAY TOO MANY PROBLEMS WITH
AVG AND AVAST! computer crashing, virus infestations, slow downs. NOD32
reversed that. my computer is faster now, no virus outbreaks, or crashes ever!

All a matter of taste really - I use the new Zonealarm, it has been grand
for me!

That's funny, I've been using AVG for years and have never had an issue with
a single virus, never mind infestations of multiple virus's. AVG causes your
computer to crash? Bollocks mate! Either you are a shill for Nod32 or you
don't know how to run a PC.
