I went here to see how I can add Photofiltre to the "send to" right-click
option.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/tips/ferguson1.mspx

Following this information, a shortcut was added to the Send-To folder
options, but doesn't work. Nothing happens when I select it to send a pic
to Photofiltre. How can I add PhotoPiltre to the Send-To right-click option
in Vista? Despite the MS infromation, shortcuts don't work in the "send-to"
option folder in Vista.

The PC = HP Pavilion/VistaHomePremium SP/2 w/all updates.
500G HD, 3G Ram, AMD dual-processor.

MS keyboard and HP optical mouse.

Click Start and type shell:sendto to open the SendTo folder. Create a
shortcut
for the photofiltre.exe.

That was easy. Thanks. Always wanted a 'send to Notepad'.

Hello Valorie,

That was for XP. This should help show you how to add the folder for
Vista instead.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67599-send-context-menu.html

Hope this helps,
Shawn

But that doesn't work with Vista. I can see Photofiltre.exe there as a
choice, but nothing happens when I click on it to try to send an image to
the program.

What version of Vista do you have? It doesn't work on HomePremium SP/2.

Thanks Shawn, but as I said above, that doesn't work on my version of Vista.
I added the shortcut Photofiltre and Photofiltre.exe and neither work. The
shortcut made in Vista shows as a folder in the "Send To" folder.

I would also like to add Notepad but it dosn't show up on "Create Shortcut"
in Browse, to ad to "Send To." Also notepad shows up 11 times on a Agent
Ransack search, so which do I select to ad to "Send To?" Notepad.exe alone
shows up 6 times. The site doesn't explain these things. The other items in
the Send-To menu aren't folders or shortcuts. They are just names. It's
easy enough to follow so why isn't it working?

It looks like that's what I'll have to do since "Send To" doesn't work with
Photo editing programs. I added one of the six Notepad.exes and that
worked. Now I have to see if I can find MSmail to add. I often send info
from the web to friends. As it is now I have to save things to the
desktop - and you know the routine, open MSmail, etc etc. What a blessing if
I could click on "send to" and WindowsMail opened. Smile

As long as Photofiltre has the .jpg file association, double clicking the
..jpg will open Photofiltre with that .jpg. Send To really works if you're
"sending" it somewhere (as an attachment to an email, as an icon to the
desktop, including it in a compressed/zipped file, etc.) If Photofiltre
isn't opening the .jpg but Windows Photo Gallery is, then you need to click
the .jpg file, right-click, select "Open With..." and select Photofiltre as
the program you want to use.

In any case, since you've already made the Send To for Photofiltre, you need
to go back into the Send To folder (shell:sendto), click on the Photofiltre
shortcut, right-click, click Properties. On the Shortcut tab, in the Target
field, go to the very end and enter %1 so the field looks like this
(Example: "c:\Program Files\Photofiltre\photofiltre.exe" %1).

The reason why it wasn't working is likely you need to pass the filename to
the application for it to know what to open.

Vista Home Premium SP2 64-bit.

There are not thousands of versions of Vista, but there are thousands of
different users with different capabilities, perceptions, approaches, etc.

I did that but it doesn't work in VistaHomePremium SP/2. The shortcuts are
there in the "send to" folder, but they do not work when I click on "open
with". Shortcuts wont work in that folder.

Can you open Photofiltre by double clicking photofiltre.exe?
If yes, can you open your .jpg by using the File/Open menu of Photofiltre?

Are you sure that the "send to" folder you are using is the right one?
There may be more than one. e.g. one in "all users" one in "default user" and one on your profile.
Try adding a different shortcut, e.g send to (named folder) and see if that works.

BTW a good trick is to create a shortcut to the send to folder and put it in the send to folder.
Then you can right click and send any shortcut you want to the shortcut folder.
(But it has to be the right one)
