Why is it that i cannot use 108 mbps when networking wirelessly in vista? i
use a netgear wpn824v2 router and a wpn311 adapter and in xp it runs 108 but
i can only select 54mbps when using vista. I have been lead to beleive that
vista does not supptort 108. Is this true, and if so, why?
thank you in advance

It isn't the operating system (Vista) that doesn't support higher
speeds, it's the wireless network adapter drivers you are using. Check
with the wireless adapter mftr. for updated drivers.

http://www.atheros.cz/download.php?atheros=AR5004G&system=4

This is a link for the Atheros chipset drivers for almost every wireless adapter on the market. Netgear's current driver set does not support 108mbps.

    1) Unzip the downloaded archive to an empty directory.
    2) Uninstall the Netgear drivers via "Programs and Features" in Control Panel.
    3) Install the Atheros drivers manually. Setup won't work.
      a) Go to Device Manager in Control Panel. If you don't have Control Panel in Classic Mode, do so now.
      b) Right click on the network adapter without any drivers installed.
      c) Click "Update Driver Software"
      d) Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
      e) Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
      f) Select the hardware type (Network adapters).
      g) Click "Have disk" button.
      h) Browse to the folder you saved the unzipped archive to. Double-click the folder for either the 32 or 64-bit driver.
      i) The driver list will pop up. Select "Atheros AR5004G Wireless Network Adapter" and click OK. Windows will display a dialog box stating that this driver is not an exact match and may harm your computer. Ignore this - it will work - and click "Yes". The drivers will install.

Do your normal setup for your wireless network and you're set.
