how "necessary" further are the above mentioned programs when using
todays "all in one" protections as Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0,
BitDefender Internet Security 9.0 etc.?

Using the 'Ounce of Prevention' concept and the fact that they're free,
why not?

I'd say it depends on your ability to practice Safe Hex. <g>
I run the two "above mentioned programs" [1] maybe twice a month and
they never find anything. I know others who run them daily and they
*always* find bad stuff.
If one *needs* them, one is doing something wrong.
[1] It would be nice if you wrote your query in the body of the message,
as well as picking a good subject line.

Peter:
For ther same reason I include four different AV vendor scanners in the Multi AV Scanning
Tool.
One may catch what another may miss.

Good Grief Charlie Brown! Good Grief!!!!!!
This thread is over a year old. Why is it being dredged up now?
There is NO Security Suite that will get everything that comes down the pike.
That's one reason that most tech's don't install "Suites". I sure won't!
However, programs that compliment each other like AdAware 2007 and Spybot S&D 1.4 (NOW, 1.5 ), are good to use. Both are FREE and each one finds things that the other does not. They complement each other like no other two programs I can think of, just off hand.
Apparently they look for slightly different kinds of malware.
(Adware and Spyware)
These two programs like many others, require some setup to ever work properly. Never install any program like the above two and expect them to work at their maximum efficiency right "Out of the Box". Examine every option and every menu and check off what applies to you.
I wrote up my own setup routine for Spybot, and it took a whole page.
I thought it was significant enough to put on my website for easy download.
