Thanks to my mobile English—Chinese dictionary, I could manage quite well in Beijing with my limited Mandarin. Last week, when I was ordering my dinner in a Beijing roast duck restaurant, I remembered that I had to remind the “fuwu yuan” or waitress that I could not eat peanuts since I’m allergic to it. But I had forgotten how to say and write the word “peanut”. Luckily I saved Youzhu’s English- Chinese dictionary phone number when I was doing my trip preparation. So I sent the word “peanut” to the number (156-0136-2659) and in seconds, I received a reply of “花生”. Good thing I was able to inform the chef else I might’ve ended up an emergency room! |
