Hi

First of all I want to say that I do not have any antivirus software installed on this infected windows xp pro sp2 PC.

The virus seems to be very intelligent it has blocked all modes of removing itself like it automatically closes the Task Manager, Msconfig, Antivirus websites, Folder options and deleted all restore points.And moreover it runs in safe mode also.

During windows startup when the desktop loads, some command prompt windows also runs about 3.

The major problem this virus has created is the disabling of my proxy server software (Lan Suite), thats how I came to know about this problem.

And I think this virus would not also allow installation of any antivirus software.

Pls. give me some solution other than formatting the harddrive.

Have you tried running an online virus scanner?

here is a manual step by step guide to remove the infected file and enable the task manager, msconfig etc. etc
