all of a sudden you can see on usb pen drive folder and filenames such
as >?<.%$$ and the size of files ranging to 2gb which is false because
flash is only 1gb, and the more you mess with it the more such files
appear(and you cannot copy, open, rename, delete or attach them )
However avg-free,NOD nor quickheal scan did not reveal anything(did
not scan boot sector though)
Any ideas please

I ran into that problem, several times, a few years ago and I think
it was caused by my plugging my USB drive into computers that
were infected with either a virus or spyware of some kind. Being
a PC tech I use my USB drive on many different computers and
the only way I could fix it was to format the USB drive and copy
everything back onto it.

After going through that a few times I started carrying two USB
drives around, one just for my files, and one with the software I
use to remove viruses and spyware from computers. I have not
run into that problem for a few years but, just to be on the safe
side, I backup my USB drives on a daily basis.
