free antivirus for old notebook

Thinking of using it on the internet, i've just revitalised my old notebook and i need an advice of what security solution would be most appropriate. it runs slowly, so i tested a few programs found on some sites and kept avira antivir and the free antispyware spywareblaster. Are they enough? what other freeware would be useful?

Hi Zackwj,
Notebook not that old if Avira runs, as Avira has dropped win9x.
Comodo has new 2009 firewall and antivirus combo. Can choose
one or the other or both. Spywareblaster good but not enough.
I use Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes Antimalware.
Winpatrol also very good. Be wary when getting spybotsd as there are
hoaxes called "spybot" and "search and destroy" which ask for $$
and do nothing. Avast works with win9x.

thanks for your advices. actually it is quite old but can run XP.
