On Sept 3, 2007, I got a note that Spybot S&D version 1.5 had just been released.
You can download it here.

Don't let all those Mirror sites throw you.....just pick the first one and start the download. They all have the same Spybot 1.5 file.
It will load right over ver. 1.4 and retain any special settings you may have in the older version.
Edit: Watch the screens closely while installing Spybot 1.5.
One screen offers to install the "Tea Timer". I suggest that you UN-Check that box. Most people, even many tech's, find the Tea Timer to be invasive and a real pain in the arse. It will run all the time in the background and pop up an alert window at the most inopportune times, till it drives you crazy.
